The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has said the federal government is investing hugely in agriculture to reduce foodstuff prices and banish hunger and poverty from the country.

The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, stated this, saying the cardinal focus of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was to ensure that Nigeria attains food security and sustenance status.

Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, spoke in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday while empowering some farmers with modern farm implements to boost food production in the state.

Items distributed include one big tractor, 10 power tillers and cartons of liquid fertilisers.

Represented by a renowned Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Mr. Remi Oguntuase, the Senate Leader pledged continued support for the well-being of farmers not only in his district but across the state.

The federal lawmaker said the empowerment was in tandem with the cardinal objectives of Tinubu’s administration and the Ekiti State government under Governor Biodun Oyebanji to make people’s lives more abundant.

“This gesture is to improve food production in Ekiti State. Improved food production will help stamp out hunger and poverty among our people.

“The implements we donate are modern; we need to improve our production methods. We can’t continue to do things the old way.

“I appreciate President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji’s commitments to improving agriculture in Nigeria and Ekiti State through adequate support to our farmers.

“This is the line every level of government must follow because over 60% of our population depends on agriculture”.

In his remarks, the Ekiti state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, urged the benefitting farmers to ensure proper use of empowerment equipment to improve food production in the state.
