Nigeria’s Under-19 Women’s Basketball Team, the Junior D’Tigress, suffered their second consecutive defeat at the ongoing FIBA Under-19 Women’s World Cup in the Czech Republic, losing 61-79 to Portugal in their third match of the tournament on Tuesday.

Despite commendable performances from Idumagbo Beggi (17 points) and Toby Nweke (16 points), the Nigerian team fell short against their Portuguese counterparts at the Sportovní hala Vodova in Brno.

Tuesday’s loss followed an earlier heavy defeat of 42-113 against Canada on Sunday.

With one victory against China and two setbacks, Nigeria finished third in their Group B campaign.

By avoiding a clash with the defending champions, the United States of America in the round of 16, Nigeria’s young ladies will now face the runners-up from Group A, where Hungary, Israel, and South Korea are competing for the spot.

Coach Juliana Negedu’s Nigerian squad will play their round of 16 match on Wednesday, with a potential quarter-final matchup against either Canada or Brazil.
