FIFA President Insists Iran Will Play World Cup Games In US

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has firmly confirmed that Iran will participate in the upcoming World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This announcement came during FIFA’s 76th Congress held in Vancouver, where Infantino addressed concerns regarding Iran’s involvement, which had been cast into doubt amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Infantino stated unequivocally, “Let me start by confirming straightaway that, of course, Iran will be participating at the FIFA World Cup 2026,” emphasising the certainty of their games being held in the United States. His comments received immediate support from US President Donald Trump, who expressed his approval, stating, “Well, if Gianni said it, I’m OK,” reinforcing that Iran should indeed play.

Despite Iranian officials considering relocating their matches to Mexico, Infantino dismissed this notion, affirming Iran’s commitment to competing in the US. Additionally, there were unverified claims of Italy potentially taking Iran’s place, which were promptly rejected by US officials, who reiterated that Iranian footballers would be welcomed.
