Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has granted amnesty to six inmates to mark Democracy Day in Adamawa State

The inmates serving various jail terms across five correctional centres in the state were pardoned yesterday.

A statement by Humwashi Wonosikou, Fintiri’s press secretary said, the governor exercised the powers conferred on him by section 212 (i)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Governor Fintiri also commuted the death sentence of another inmate to life imprisonment.

The CPS explained that seven inmates were serving their terms in Yola old, Jada, Numan, Mubi, and Jimeta Correctional facilities.

“Governor Fintiri acted in line with the recommendation of the Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

“Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s decision is part of efforts to decongest some of the ladened correctional centres in the state” the statement added.
