Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has ordered the immediate revocation and reclamation of portions of government-owned market land along Numan Road, following reports of unlawful allocation to traders and individuals by unauthorized persons.

The state government said the affected sections of the Red Brick Market were allocated without statutory approval, due process, or remittance to the state treasury, describing the action as a breach of established land administration procedures.

Governor Fintiri said the development violated the Land Use Act, the Adamawa State Urban Planning Development Authority (ASUPDA) Law, and other regulatory frameworks guiding land allocation and urban development in the state.

He subsequently directed ASUPDA to take immediate possession of the disputed land and commence full reclamation.

“All illegal occupants are hereby ordered to vacate the property with immediate effect,” Fintiri was quoted as saying. “Failure to comply will attract forceful eviction and prosecution for criminal trespass.”

The governor also warned government officials and civil servants against any form of involvement in illegal allocation or sale of state land, stressing that his administration would not shield any offender.

“Any official found culpable will be investigated, dismissed, and prosecuted. Public office is a trust, and this administration has zero tolerance for abuse of that trust,” he said.

Fintiri further cautioned residents and traders to ensure that all land transactions are properly verified through the Ministry of Lands and Survey as well as the Ministry of Commerce and Industry before any payment is made.

He warned that unauthorized transactions on government land would be declared null and void, adding that victims of such dealings would not receive compensation.

“Let it be clear: any transaction on government land that does not pass through the approved channels is null and void. Buyers risk forfeiting both the land and their money, as government will not pay compensation to victims of fraud,” he said.

According to him, the action was necessary to protect public assets, enforce proper urban planning, safeguard government revenue, and restore order in the state’s markets.

The directive, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, takes immediate effect.
