General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said it was reported at exactly 8:50 pm on Thursday through a phone call by a retired fire officer, Mr. M.O Adewuyi.

Akinyinka said the agency’s officers led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele promptly deployed to the scene of incident.

“On getting to the scene of incident we met the warehouse of the foam mattress company engulfed by fire.

“The fireman swiftly swung into action by applying necessary firefighting chemicals in curtailing such fire. The fire was strictly restricted from spreading to other manufacturing section and other sections of the company,” he said.

According to him, the fire was completely extinguished within 15 minutes, noting however that it had raged for an hour before the agency was called by a passersby who saw the smoke coming out from the company’s premises.

However, he said the fire was extinguished together with the collaboration of Federal Fire Service, Oyo Command.

Akinyinka added that fire was ignited to the nearby combustibles due to overheating emanating from the foam blocks.

“The fire only affected the foam blocks warehouse and properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the agency.

Speaking on the incident, the Senior Adviser on Fire Service Reform to Oyo State Governor, Hon. Maroof Akinwande charged the management of the company to always be conscious of fire and ensure that all necessary safety equipment were put in place to avert future occurrence.

Akinwande also assured the public that Governor Seyi Makinde values the safety of lives and properties in the state.

He urged the public to see the firemen as their friends and should always be of their assistance during the firefighting operations.

The presence of a team of Amotekun Corps from Oyo East Division led by CFS Adeduntan provided security cover during the firefighting operation to prevent looting of the company’s assets.
