A fire outbreak on Thursday engulfed a multi-storey commercial building housing a branch of Polaris Bank on Broad Street, Lagos Island, causing panic among residents, workers and business owners in the area.

Videos circulating on social media showed thick black smoke billowing from the building as onlookers gathered around the scene while emergency responders battled to contain the blaze.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were swiftly deployed to the location and were seen making efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings within the densely populated commercial district.

The incident disrupted business activities along Broad Street, one of the major commercial hubs on Lagos Island, as traders and office workers watched emergency operations unfold.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation of casualties or injuries resulting from the fire.

The cause of the outbreak also remained unknown, with investigations expected to determine the circumstances that triggered the incident.
