Fire Outbreak Renders 11 Cross River Households Homeless

44 persons from 11 households have been rendered homeless in Cross River State by a fire outbreak which destroyed their homes and property worth millions of naira.

Director-general of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CR-SEMA) James Anam, confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP Friday a day after it occurred in Edibe Edibe area of Càlabar.

After visiting the scene of the incident to meet with the victims alongside the officials of Red Cross Society of Nigeria yesterday, Anam assured the victims of the state government’s willingness to intervene in their affairs.

He said the government would ensure that those affected don’t go on suffering without assistance. On the cause of the disaster, he said it could not be ascertained as the agency was still investigating it.

The DG urged victims to be hopeful as efforts are underway by the government to provide them with succour to assist victims.

While expressing sympathy on the victims, Anam promised that the administration of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, will do everything within its reach to provide them with relief materials and other support they may require.

Also, the Cross River branch disaster management officer of Red Cross Society of Nigeria pledged the organisation’s commitment to assisting the victims during the difficult time.

It appealed to the residents to be safety cautious.
