The first edition of the KM and Comms Village, a pioneering community of practice dedicated to transforming how organisations generate, share, and apply knowledge, has debuted in Abuja.

The debut marks the emergence of a creative and intellectual space that brings together practitioners working at the intersection of knowledge management and strategic communication.

Speaking at the gathering, the Convener, Dr Adeshola Komolafe, described the Village as a necessary space for collective thinking and problem-solving, noting that many institutions struggle not because they lack information, but because they lack frameworks that help them use knowledge effectively.
“The KM and Comms Village debuted from a simple but urgent question. How do we turn raw information into intelligence, and intelligence into action? This Village is a living community of practice where people can explore those questions together.”
A distinctive feature of the debut was the intentional design of the entire environment, where every element, from the venue layout to artworks, installations, digital tools, and experiential features, was purposefully crafted to communicate meaning.

Dr Komolafe explained, “We created the KM and Comms Village to demonstrate that knowledge and communication are not support functions. They are strategic levers that shape how organisations think, respond, and create impact.

“This space was designed to make that truth visible. Every installation, every visual, every object in this Village is intentional. We want participants to experience what it means to communicate with purpose, to see how knowledge can be translated into clarity, and to understand that systems of learning and communication must be built deliberately.

“The Village is also a place where the government, the private sector, development partners, and civil society can bring their issues for review, and where we collectively examine and refine them as a village.”

One of the participants, Joseph Mutah, described the experience as the beginning of something important that will influence how institutions approach knowledge and communication.

Another, Khadija Monguno, said the Village brings learning, creativity, and strategy into one coherent space. It shows what becomes possible when ideas are allowed to breathe and when communication is treated as a craft.”

Designed as a multi-day, multi-format experience, the Village brings together expert roundtables, solution labs, knowledge clinics, storytelling hubs, micro-masterclasses, and a curated showcase of innovative tools and ideas.
