In a thrilling Premier League encounter, Manchester City, led by Phil Foden’s sensational hat-trick, overcame Brentford with a 3-1 victory on Monday, tightening the race at the top of the table.

Manchester City now sits just two points shy of the league leaders, sharing 49 points with Arsenal and trailing Liverpool by a narrow margin. Moreover, City has a game in hand, positioning them favorably to potentially lead the standings.

Under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Manchester City showcased resilience by becoming the first team in the Premier League to secure four consecutive away victories, despite trailing in each contest.

Brentford initially took the lead through Neal Maupay, but Foden’s equaliser just before the half-time whistle shifted the momentum. Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland later assisted Foden in completing his hat-trick, marking a remarkable performance by the England international, who has now scored 14 goals this season.

Guardiola praised Foden’s outstanding season, highlighting his crucial contributions to the team’s success. The match also featured a commendable performance from Brentford’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken, who, despite being under scrutiny for his save percentage, made significant saves to challenge the champions.

Manchester City’s determination and skill were evident as they capitalised on their scoring opportunities, with Foden playing a pivotal role in turning the game in their favour. Despite Brentford’s efforts to equalize, Manchester City’s defense, led by Ruben Dias, remained solid, securing their 11th win in 12 games.

The result leaves Brentford hovering just above the relegation zone, while Manchester City continues to be a formidable contender for the title, aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive English top-flight championship. With the season nearing its climax, Manchester City’s latest victory sends a strong message to their rivals, underscoring their ambition to remain at the pinnacle of English football.
