The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Comrade Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin of Ambrose Alli University as its new National Director of Sports.

Timileyin emerged victorious at the 2026 National Convention of the students’ body held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, where delegates and student leaders from tertiary institutions across the country elected a new national executive for the association.

Before his emergence, Timileyin served as chairman of NANS in Edo State and later as Financial Secretary/Treasurer of NANS Zone B, South-South Zone.

His election has been described by stakeholders within the students’ movement as a reward for his commitment to student activism, youth mobilisation and grassroots leadership.

Speaking after his election, the newly elected sports director thanked delegates and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to prioritise sports development across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

According to him, sports remain a veritable platform for youth engagement, talent discovery and national integration.

“I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence reposed in me by Nigerian students through their representatives. This victory is not for me alone, but for every student who believes in the transformative power of sports as a vehicle for unity, leadership and national development,” he said.

Timileyin added that his administration would work towards reviving sporting activities on campuses and creating opportunities for student-athletes across the country.

“I am committed to working with relevant stakeholders to promote healthy competition, identify talents and ensure Nigerian students are adequately represented and supported in sporting engagements at all levels,” he stated.

The NANS sports director also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his administration’s commitment to youth development and inclusion.

He further commended the management of Ambrose Alli University for its support throughout his journey in student leadership.

Timileyin called on Nigerian students to remain united and support the new leadership of the association, stressing that collective effort would be required to address challenges facing students and reposition NANS for greater impact.
