Former governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Mukhtar Yero, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna North Senatorial District primary election.
Yero secured 6,060 votes to defeat Muazu Mukaddas, who polled 1,044 votes, while Engineer Bala Ikara scored 362 votes, thereby clinching the party’s ticket for the forthcoming general election.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, also secured the APC return ticket after defeating former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah and Michael Ayuba Auta in the primary election conducted across the eight local government areas of the district.
Announcing the results at the collation centre in Jema’a Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
According to the results, Katung polled 7,453 votes to defeat Danjuma Laah, who secured 1,370 votes, while Michael Auta scored 878 votes.
Reacting to the outcome, the chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Joseph Bege Gaiya, said the result reflected the wishes of the grassroots and demonstrated the party’s internal democracy.
He urged aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation and strengthen unity within the party ahead of the general election.
