The co-founder of British online fashion giant Asos has died in what is labelled a mysterious balcony fall in Thailand. Multi-millionaire Quentin Griffith is said to have plunged from the 17th floor of his condominium in Pattaya.

Emergency services found the 58-year-old retail entrepreneur’s body on the ground beneath his balcony. Reports state the police did not discover any signs of disturbance in his apartment, but are not ruling out foul play until an autopsy is carried out, a process that could take several months.

This tragic incident comes amid a bitter argument with his Thai ex-wife after she accused him of stealing £500,000 from the company they ran together. Griffith was arrested last year and interrogated by detectives after claims he had forged documents to sell land and shares in the firm without her knowledge. Griffiths insisted on his innocence and was released after questioning. The investigation was ongoing at the time of his death.

An insider told the media, ‘It’s a real mystery. The phrase “suspicious circumstances” has been used, but we don’t know yet.’

The late multi-millionaire assisted in launching Asos in 2000 alongside Nick Robertson and Andrew Regan, and remained until 2005. Asos later evolved into a £3 billion global retailer, patronised by some high-profile individuals.

A former advertising executive, Griffith stepped down as marketing director after four years. He later made £15 million from share sales in 2010 and received a further stock payout in 2013.

Griffith later sued his accountants at the accounting firm, BDO, stating he had been given the wrong advice on how to avoid tax on the sale.

The multi-millionaire and father of three relocated to Thailand around 2007 and, after divorcing his first wife, married a Thai woman. They had a son and a daughter, but broke up a few years ago.
