The journey of Ikechukwu Kalu is a compelling story of resilience, discipline and determination. As the founder and chief executive of Customer Passion Points Limited (CPPL), Kalu has built a company known for delivering value-driven marketing consulting, customer experience solutions and professional training to organisations across Nigeria.

Reflecting on the launch of CPPL in 2010, Kalu described the experience as both exciting and challenging. Starting with limited resources, the company had to compete against well-established consulting firms while working to gain the confidence of potential clients.

“The biggest challenge was building credibility,” he recalled.

Despite an impressive corporate career spanning Guinness Nigeria, MTN, Zain (now Airtel), Etisalat Tanzania, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Ecobank Nigeria, Kalu discovered that previous achievements alone could not guarantee business success. He had to consistently demonstrate value through quality service delivery and impactful projects.

According to him, discipline became the foundation of the business. Rather than pursuing shortcuts, he focused on long-term growth, prudent financial management and maintaining high ethical standards.

One defining moment came when he introduced CPPL to a business associate who appreciated the concept but questioned whether the young company possessed the capacity and structure to execute major assignments.

Although initially disappointed, Kalu said the experience taught him patience and reinforced the need to build sustainable systems rather than chase immediate recognition.

Over the next two years, CPPL strengthened its operations, refined its service offerings and gradually earned the trust of clients through consistent performance.

Before fully dedicating himself to CPPL, Kalu briefly worked with FCMB and Ecobank Nigeria. He described these experiences as strategic detours that broadened his understanding of corporate governance, financial systems and business management.

The exposure also equipped him with valuable knowledge on raising capital and managing business growth, skills he now shares with entrepreneurs seeking to scale their ventures sustainably.

Operating in Nigeria’s challenging economic environment has not been easy. Rising inflation, exchange rate volatility and frequent policy changes have tested businesses across sectors.

However, Kalu said CPPL has remained resilient by focusing on value creation through its core services in marketing consulting and professional training.

He attributed the company’s continued growth to innovation, adaptability and continuous learning. To strengthen his expertise, he pursued executive education programmes at Lagos Business School and Harvard Business School, enabling him to stay ahead of industry trends and deliver better solutions to clients.

Today, CPPL has established itself in brand activation, micro-marketing, brand experience management and market research, serving clients across various industries, including non-profit organisations.

Beyond business success, Kalu takes pride in developing people. Through CPPL, the company has trained nearly 500 young professionals, entrepreneurs and interns, helping them acquire practical skills for career and business advancement.

Offering advice to aspiring entrepreneurs and young professionals, Kalu urged them to remain patient and resilient, noting that sustainable success rarely comes overnight.

He encouraged business owners to prioritise innovation, customer satisfaction and sound financial management instead of pursuing quick profits.

He also stressed the importance of seeking mentors, investing in continuous learning and maintaining integrity in every business decision.
