Premier League side Fulham are closing in on the signature of Nigerian international defender Chibuike Nwaiwu, with negotiations entering their final stages.

According to reports from Sky Sport, the London club has tabled a formal bid of €27 million (£23 million) to Trabzonspor for the highly rated centre-back, who has been a revelation since his arrival in Turkey just six months ago.
While Fulham’s opening offer falls short of Trabzonspor’s asking price—the Turkish giants are holding out for €30 million—sources close to the negotiations indicate that both parties are optimistic about bridging the gap.
A compromise is expected to be reached imminently, with the final paperwork and medical examinations tentatively scheduled for the beginning of next week. Barring any last-minute hitches, Nwaiwu will become Fulham’s marquee defensive signing of the summer window.
The 22-year-old has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Cottagers, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract that will keep him at Craven Cottage until 2030, with an option for a further 12 months.
The move represents a significant step up for the young defender, who only joined Trabzonspor in January from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC for a modest fee.
His rapid adaptation to Süper Lig football has been nothing short of remarkable—within weeks, he cemented his place in the starting XI and formed a formidable partnership at the heart of the Black Sea Storm’s defense.
Nwaiwu’s impact was most evident during Trabzonspor’s triumphant Turkish Cup campaign, where his composure on the ball, aerial dominance, and reading of the game drew widespread praise from pundits and fans alike.
He started every knockout fixture and was instrumental in shutting down some of the league’s most potent attacks, helping his side lift the trophy in May. That performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe, with several Premier League and Serie A clubs previously scouting the Nigerian, but Fulham have moved decisively to steal a march on their rivals.
For Fulham manager Marco Silva, Nwaiwu fits the profile of a modern ball-playing centre-half—comfortable in high-pressure situations and adept at initiating play from the back.
With the Cottagers looking to build on a solid mid-table finish last season and push for a top-half berth, the addition of the young Nigerian is seen as a statement of intent.
If the deal goes through as expected, Nwaiwu will join fellow countrymen Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey at the club, adding to Fulham’s growing Nigerian contingent and further strengthening their defensive depth ahead of the new campaign.
