National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam has called for a comprehensive investigation into the attempted violent attack on its National Secretariat in Abuja.
Gabam insisted that security agencies must identify and prosecute not only those directly involved but also any sponsors or financiers behind the incident.
SDP had been engulfed in a protracted leadership dispute but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) updated its website in late April, listing Gabam as National Chairman “by court order.”
The INEC recognised SDP helmsman in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Lawal Ibrahim, described
the attempted invasion of its secretariat by suspected hoodlums and criminal elements as a serious threat to public order, party members, and democratic processes.
According to the statement, the attackers were allegedly acting in the interest of individuals seeking to impose themselves as the party’s presidential candidate.
It pointed out that the attempted attack was aimed at disrupting activities at the secretariat before security operatives.
