The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, have lamented the absence of support by government in the South Western part of the country to keep the hope of cultural transformation alive in the region.
Adams who spoke at the unveiling of the programmes for the commencement of the 2023 edition of Eledumare Festival in Lagos, called on the governors in the South West to dedicate a day or two as public holiday for the celebration of Eledumare festival.
He, however, said the government of South West and corporate organisations have done nothing to help or promote festivals in Yoruba Land.
“Let me also say that while we continue to keep the hope of cultural transformation alive, it is unfortunate that none of the state governments has supported us. The government of the south west has done anything to motivate or support the cause. Even the corporate organization has been of no help,” Adams said.
He continued, “As far as I am concerned, cultural promotion activities are like a journey we will keep on moving on and on. Let me use this opportunity to call on the governors of the south west state to dedicate a day or two as public holiday for the celebration of Eledumare Festival.
“This is how it is done during the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad (SAW).God the creator of heaven and earth deserves even more than what we offer Him in life.
“Interestingly, many of our members are Muslims and Christians. They usually join their families and friends to celebrate during the festive periods of the two prominent religions.
“So, as we begin all the activities heralding the celebration of this year’s Eledumare Festival, I humbly make a case for cultural rebirth and transformation. I also seek total transformation of Yoruba culture and tradition.”
