Germany have recorded their third seven-goal haul at a FIFA World Cup this century following a 7-1 victory over Curaçao.
The latest rout means Germany have now been responsible for three of the five matches at the World Cup since 2000 in which a team has scored seven goals or more.
Their previous high-scoring displays came in an 8-0 win over Saudi Arabia at the 2002 tournament and the famous 7-1 demolition of hosts Brazil in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup.
The emphatic victory over Curaçao further underlined Germany’s reputation as one of the most ruthless teams on football’s biggest stage.
Only five World Cup matches this century have seen a team score at least seven goals, with Germany accounting for three of them.
The 7-1 triumph over Curaçao added another chapter to the four-time champions’ history of dominant performances at the tournament.
