The Royal Organising Committee (ROC) for the Gombe Emirates and Chiefdoms Unity Football Competition, widely known as the Gombe Emir’s Unity Cup 2026, has been formally inaugurated in Gombe. This event marks the official commencement of preparations for the eagerly anticipated tournament.
The inauguration took place during the committee’s inaugural meeting, where members received their official letters of appointment. This was followed by a press briefing attended by representatives from major media organisations.
Speaking at the briefing, the sponsor, Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe, explained that the competition aims to foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and youth development through sport across Gombe State’s emirates and chiefdoms.
He detailed that the tournament will adopt a hybrid format, with participating teams initially divided into four groups across four centres, pending the Technical Committee’s final recommendations.
Mr. Gombe also revealed substantial financial rewards for the winners: the champions will receive ₦5 million and a trophy, the runner-up ₦3 million, and the third-place team ₦2 million. Additional individual accolades, including trophies, will be presented for Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal Scorer, Most Valuable Player, and the Fair Play Team.
Furthermore, a statewide trophy tour is scheduled to run from Monday, 2nd February 2026, to Friday, 6th February 2026. This “Road Show” will visit all 15 emirates and chiefdoms in the state, commencing in Nafada and Funakaye Emirates, and continuing through Yamaltu, Deba, Waja, Kaltungo, Tangale, Akko, Pindiga, Cham, Dadiya, Tula, Gona, and Dukku.
The Gombe Emir’s Cup 2026 is organised and sponsored by Green White Green (GWG) Sports Center Ltd, with the endorsement and support of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Gombe. The competition is expected to significantly bolster grassroots football development and promote community cohesion throughout Gombe State.
The Emir’s Cup committee is chaired by Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe, who is also the competition’s sponsor. He is supported by Auwal Musa Umar, former Chairman of the Gombe State Football Association and Gombe United FC, serving as Vice Chairman.
Other committee members include Alhaji Umar Abubakar (Madakin Gombe and representative of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Gombe), Abdulkadir Adamu (Kawu), Malam Dahiru Mohammed Umar (Danlawan Kaltungo), Muhammad Magaji Ibrahim (Santurakin Babba of Pindiga and District Head of Kolmani), Mallam Mai Umar (Yarin Gombe), Bilya Yaro Dawakin-Tofa (Sarkin Samarin Gona), Malam Hashimu Ibrahim, and Comr. Abdulaziz Sani Labaran. Haruna Isah Kalshingi serves as Director of Organisation and Executive Management Assistant at Green White Green Sports Center.
The Secretariat Support Team comprises Haruna Abdullahi (Secretary), Muhsin Jibo Maigoro (New Media), Yakubu Maikudi (Public Relations Officer), and Muhammad Musa Baba (Personal Assistant to the Chairman, providing logistics support).
