Represented by his deputy, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated that delivering quality healthcare has been a top priority of his administration since its inception in 2019, emphasizing that his government has invested heavily in improving the sector over the past five years.

“We are glad to welcome you to Gombe for your quarterly meeting. Your choice of Gombe State for the 106th edition of this meeting serves as a testament to your satisfaction with the state’s development and progress, which qualified it to host this significant event. We welcome you and hope that your deliberations will provide insights on how we can further improve the healthcare sector at both federal and subnational levels”, the Governor said.

“Distinguished participants, you may be aware of our efforts in the health sector. Since our assumption of office in 2019, the health sector has been a top priority for us. We have invested heavily in improving the delivery of quality healthcare services across the state. As a result, we have revitalized all the Primary Health Care centers across the 114 wards. We reconstructed the General Hospital in Kumo (Gombe Central) and upgraded the Specialist Hospital, as well as two other General Hospitals in Kaltungo (Gombe South) and Funakaye (Gombe North)”, Governor Inuwa added.

He added that the introduction of the Go-Health scheme, which provides affordable and quality healthcare services at a 90% discount, as well as the construction of the 600 students -capacity Gombe State College of Nursing and Midwifery, and the introduction of mandatory daily biometric attendance to ensure the dedication of health workers to their duty posts, are part of deliberate efforts to improve healthcare services.

The Governor also used the occasion to announce plans by his administration to construct additional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in each of the 114 wards across the 11 local governments before his tenure ends in 2027, while pledging to strengthen the ongoing synergy between the state government and the Federal Teaching Hospital to enhance health workers’ capacity building and the delivery of improved quality healthcare services in the state.
