The commissioning event, held at Akko Primary Health Care Centre, was attended by stakeholders, community leaders, and residents.

State deputy governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, represented Governor Inuwa Yahaya at the ceremony where he highlighted the administration’s commitment to healthcare improvement since taking office in 2019.

He said key achievements include increased healthcare funding, pointing out that they have consistently increased healthcare funding in the state budget from 3.5 percent in 2019 to 15 percent, aligning with the Abuja declaration.

The other key initiatives, he enumerated, were establishment of Gombe Contributory Health Agency with over 300,000 beneficiaries and revitalisation of 103 PHCs and 66 health clinics with support from the World Bank through the IMPACT project.

“These facilities are now equipped with solar power, water supply, basic equipment, and staff accommodation,” he stated.

The deputy governor emphasised the need for local ownership and sustainability of these facilities, urging communities to take ownership and ensure effective maintenance and utilisation.

He also appreciated the contributions of civil society organisations, the World Bank and the technical team led by Dr Oniorede as well as local government chairmen, traditional leaders and residents.
