The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Gombe State council, has described the outcome of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB’s) election as expected, given Professor Umar Pate’s extensive experience, national and international recognition and professional expertise in communication and broadcast media.
Renowned Mass Communication professor, Umar Pate, emerged the pioneer president of the SNB at the election which took place at the SNB national conference and induction in Abuja on Thursday.
The council, in a statement signed by its chairman, Saidu Bappa Malala and secretary, Danjuma Kala, hailed Pate’s emergence, saying he is an icon in the media industry whose achievement is a testament to his dedication and commitment to the profession.
“We join other well-meaning Nigerians, particularly in the media, to congratulate Prof Umaru Pate on this remarkable feat.
“We wish him a successful and purposeful leadership of the society, driving the development of the broadcast media industry in the country,” the union said.
Pate was the head of Mass Communication department at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), dean faculty of communication at Bayero University Kano (BUK) and now, vice chancellor, Federal University, Kashere (FUK) in Gombe State.
