The order seeks to address various challenges posed by mining operations, including environmental degradation, security concerns, and exploitation of host communities.

In a press release by his media aide Isma’ila Uba Misilli, the governor explained that the order establishes a Mining Activities Monitoring Committee (MAMC), chaired by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, to oversee all mining operations in the state.

He said the committee will ensure compliance with state laws and collaborate with federal agencies to minimise environmental impact.

“Mining entities are now required to submit Community Consents and Community Development Agreements to the state’s Ministry of Justice for vetting before commencing operations.

“This measure ensures that mining activities align with the interests of host communities and that all agreements are legally sound,” he said.
