Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inspected the ongoing work on the hostels of the newly established Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BUAST), Ihugh, as part of his administration’s efforts to ensuring quality education.

Also, Alia has approved the sponsorship of the 2026 JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration for 400 pre-degree/remedial students of BUAST.

During the visit, the governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and reiterated his commitment to providing quality education to the state’s people.

The technical adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, in a statement yesterday, said Alia stressed that education is a key driver of development and that his administration was determined to harness its potential to transform the state.

Regarding Governor Alia’s sponsorship of BUAST students, the aide said the gesture was aimed at encouraging students to pursue higher education and thereby contribute to the state’s development.

Alia said quality education is essential to the growth and development of Benue State, citing its benefits in agriculture and entrepreneurship.

He maintained that his administration’s focus on education is to equip the people of Benue, especially the young ones, with the skills and knowledge to compete in the global economy.

The governor also referenced the recent launch of the Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Unenrolled Pupils (BRACE-UP) project, which aims to ensure that no child of school age is left out of school.

He stated that the initiative is a critical component of his administration’s efforts to promote education and reduce poverty in Benue.

Alia urged students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them, including the sponsorship of their JAMB UTME registration, to pursue their academic dreams and contribute to the development of the state.
