Gov. Buni Bags Equitable Healthcare, Social Welfare Award

The Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni has been honoured with the Award of Leadership Excellence in Equitable Healthcare and Social Welfare at the Dove Healthcare Awards Ceremony held on 5th December, 2025, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A statement issued by the Focal Person on Digital and Strategic Communications to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Yusuf Ali said, the award was presented by the Dove Healthcare Foundation, a reputable non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting quality healthcare services across Nigeria.

Governor Buni was represented at the prestigious ceremony by the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Gana Lawan Muhammad, who was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Abubakar Yerima.

While receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, Dr. Gana Lawan Muhammad described the honour as a well-deserved recognition of Governor Buni’s massive investments in revitalizing Yobe State’s health sector.

According to the Commissioner, Governor Buni’s administration has recorded remarkable progress through the construction and rehabilitation of hospitals, upgrading of primary healthcare centres, recruitment of medical personnel, improved welfare for health workers, and provision of modern medical equipment among others.

He further noted that the Governor’s administration has also strengthened maternal and child healthcare services, expanded immunization coverage, and improved emergency medical response systems, all of which have significantly enhanced healthcare access and outcomes for the people of Yobe State.

Dr. Gana Lawan dedicated the award to the government and people of Yobe State, reaffirming the Governor’s unwavering commitment to building a resilient, accessible, and people-centred healthcare system.
