Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended Engineer Elvis Osung for his outstanding philanthropic gesture in constructing and donating a modern health centre to the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The ultra-modern facility, located in Udung Affiang, Okobo local government area, was built by the Grace Efiong Osung Foundation to serve the host community and residents of neighbouring local government areas, including Urue Offong/Oruko and Nsit Ubium.

The Governor, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, directed the executive secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mrs. Enobong Attah, to immediately enroll the facility under the National Basic Health Care Provision Fund to ensure sustainability and efficient service delivery.

Governor Umo Eno emphasised that the facility must retain the name Grace Efiong Osung Health Centre, noting that it honours the memory of Engr. Osung’s late mother and represents a lasting legacy of compassion and selfless service to humanity.

Dr. Ekem further urged traditional birth attendants in the area to refer expectant mothers to the centre to enable them access proper and professional maternal and child healthcare services.

He disclosed that retired medical doctors recently engaged on contract, alongside other healthcare workers, would be deployed to the facility, adding that full operations are expected to commence on January 2, 2026.

The Governor also directed the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area to provide adequate security for the health centre to safeguard staff, patients, and equipment. He appealed to members of the host community to take ownership of the project, protect it, and ensure its proper use, stressing that the facility is a shared asset meant to serve all.

Describing the health centre as a legacy of compassion and service, Governor Umo Eno noted that its success would depend not only on government support but also on the vigilance, care, and cooperation of the local residents. He urged the community to embrace the facility, promote healthy living, and make it a source of pride for the entire Okobo local government area.

The 10-bed capacity health centre is fully equipped with modern medical facilities, including a pharmacy, laboratory, labour ward, consulting rooms, male and female wards, a nurses’ station, and residential lodges for medical personnel. The facility is expected to significantly reduce the need for residents to travel long distances to access quality healthcare services.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the Grace Efiong Osung Foundation, Engr. Elvis Osung, described the centre as a living tribute to his late mother, Grace Efiong Osung, whose life, he said, was marked by faith, love, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.

Also speaking, the Chancellor of the Foundation, Dr. Monday E. Dickson, highlighted Engr. Osung’s broader commitment to social development, noting that over the past three years, he has awarded educational grants to deserving students across the five local government areas of Oro Nation, conducted free medical outreach programmes, and recognised top JAMB scorers in Akwa Ibom State with special educational awards.

The commissioning ceremony climaxed with the official opening of the health centre, after which dignitaries and guests toured the facility to inspect its state-of-the-art equipment and operational readiness.
