The Gombe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has recorded yet another major milestone in its livestock transformation agenda with the commencement of procurement processes for key components of the 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone.
Through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, the state government has opened bids for the construction of a state-of-the-art International Livestock Market, a modern Poultry Production Hub, and a Beef Fattening Hub, all designed to position Gombe as a leading livestock production, processing, and marketing hub in Northern Nigeria.
The projects form part of the broader Agro-Livestock Development Zone initiative conceived by the Inuwa Yahaya administration to provide critical infrastructure for livestock and agricultural development, stimulate private sector investment, create employment opportunities, and accelerate economic growth.
Speaking during the bid opening exercise, the State Project Coordinator of Gombe L-PRES, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, described the development as a significant step towards unlocking the enormous economic potential of the livestock sector.
According to him, the facilities are strategically designed to strengthen livestock value chains, improve market access, enhance productivity, and create sustainable livelihoods for farmers, pastoralists, processors, traders, and other actors within the livestock industry.
Professor Abubakar noted that the projects complement other ongoing investments under the Agro-Livestock Development Zone, particularly the ultramodern abattoir currently under construction, which is expected to serve as a major processing and export facility for livestock products from Gombe State and beyond.
He attributed the rapid progress being recorded in the livestock sector to the visionary leadership and steadfast commitment of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, whose administration has continued to prioritize agriculture and livestock development as key drivers of economic diversification and overall prosperity of the society.
The Project Coordinator assured participating companies of a transparent, competitive, and merit-based procurement process, stressing that all submissions would be evaluated strictly in accordance with established guidelines and procurement standards.
