Taraba State governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has taken delivery of food items donated by the chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, for distribution to underprivileged residents in the state’s 16 local government areas.
The donation, designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship on the beneficiaries, included 30,000 bags of 50kg maize and 15,000 bags of 10kg rice, which have been released for onward distribution to targeted residents.
Receiving the items on behalf of the governor, the chairman of the State Palliative Committee, Hon. Saleh Sa’ad, described the gesture as a sustained annual intervention that has continued to positively impact the lives of residents.
He explained that the food items would be distributed through council chairmen, with strict directives to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries at the grassroots.
According to Sa’ad, the release of 30,000 bags of maize by Governor Kefas further underscores his administration’s commitment to alleviating hardship, particularly among vulnerable groups.
The commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas, commended the governor for the timely intervention to the people.
He stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the distribution process to ensure that the items get to the rightful recipients.
In his remark, the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Taraba State, Hon. Moses Maihankali, expressed appreciation to Aliko Dangote for the donation and promised that his colleagues would ensure a transparent, fair and equitable distribution of the items.
