Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, has commended the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as their sustained commitment to securing Nigeria, particularly the South-East geopolitical zone.

Mbah gave the commendation on Friday shortly after visiting the Enugu State DSS headquarters, where he inspected a cache of arms and ammunition recovered from commanders of the outlawed Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The governor, who was accompanied by senior security officials, including the Garrison Commander, Brig. Gen. A. Suru, and Commissioner of Police C. B. Giwa, praised the coordination and intelligence-sharing among the security agencies.

During the inspection, Mbah was shown several recovered weapons, including a rocket launcher, two RPG warheads, three RPG chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles, and more than 610 rounds of 7.62x39mm NATO ammunition, as well as NYSC uniforms and lanyards.

He commended the operatives for what he described as their diligence and professionalism, noting that the recovery prevented the weapons from being used to destabilise the region.

“According to the governor, but for the diligence and intelligence of the DSS, those arms and ammunition would have been used by the ESN to wreak havoc across the South-East,” the statement noted.

Mbah also called on Nigerians, regardless of political or religious affiliation, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to combat insecurity across the country.

Security sources said the raid followed intelligence gathered from arrested ESN suspects who allegedly revealed plans to launch coordinated attacks across Enugu and other South-East states in a bid to create panic and misrepresent the security situation in the region.

The development came just days after a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced five bandit collaborators to 25 years imprisonment each over their roles in the November 21, 2025 attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, Niger State, where students and staff were abducted.
