Gov Mutfwang Commends ASR Africa Initiative For Donating Sports Complex To UNIJOS

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has commended the ASR Africa Initiative and its Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for donating a state-of-the-art sports complex worth N270 million to the University of Jos.

Mutfwang, who was represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, during the commissioning and handover ceremony to the University of Jos, said the sports complex will be a breeding ground where talents will be discovered and dreams realised

According to her, “This sports complex has come at the most appropriate time, especially as the university is hosting the 2025 NUGA Games, she said

Similarly, the Managing Director and CEO of ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh,  while delivering his speech, noted: “It is heartwarming to witness not only the beginning of this project but also to be here for the commissioning.

According to Udoh, “This is a testament to the Chairman of ASR Africa’s commitment to providing indigenous solutions through strategic interventions in education, health and social development across Nigeria.”

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Musa Ashoms, while speaking at the event, thanked the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for citing the noble project that will be remembered for generations to come in the State.

He also commended the timely completion of the project by ASR Africa and stated that the sports complex will promote sports development, recreation, and holistic learning among the University’s students.

In the same vein, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, while delivering his address, expressed gratitude to the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for donating the sports complex to the university as a legacy, which also aligns with the university’s vision of creating a sports hub.

In his words: “University of Jos has no project tied to a passionate philanthropist until today that we have Abdul Samad Rabiu Sports Complex in the University of Jos.”

LEADERSHIP reports that the intervention is under the Tertiary Education Grant Scheme for ₦270 million.

The world-class sports complex, which was completed recently, is set to be used during the ongoing Nigeria University Games (NUGA) being hosted by the University of Jos.

It represents ASR Africa’s continued commitment to supporting educational institutions through sustainable and impactful infrastructural interventions.

Our correspondent observed that the Abdul Samad Rabiu Sports Complex features a spectator stand with a capacity of over 250 seats, as well as Lawn tennis and basketball courts, complete with changing rooms, conveniences, and other facilities.

The intervention reflects the vision of ASR Africa’s founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu, to invest in impactful, long-term projects that address critical needs in the education sector, thereby strengthening Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and advancing youth development across the country.
