Gov Mutfwang Condemns Kanam Ambush, Pays Tribute To Fallen Heroes

Plateau State government has condemned the barbaric ambush by bandits which claimed the lives of 20 security personnel and local vigilantes in the Garga axis of Kanam local government area.

The government vowed to intensify crackdown on criminals to restore lasting peace in the state.

According to a statement signed by the commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed concern over the Friday mayhem which caused panic in Wanka, Kyaram, Gyambau and surrounding communities.

The government paid solemn tribute to the fallen heroes, stating: “The government commends the bravery and sacrifice of security personnel and local vigilantes who lost their lives in the course of confronting the attackers.

“Their courage and dedication in the face of danger remain a testament to their commitment to the safety of Plateau communities.

“Governor Mutfwang’s ‘Time is Now’ administration reaffirmed its unwavering resolve to defend lives and property across the state.”

The statement appealed to residents of the affected areas and the general public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and support security forces by providing timely and reliable intelligence to help eliminate the threat and achieve enduring peace.

LEADERSHIP reports that there is ongoing consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders in Kanam to mobilise grassroots support for sustained security operations.

The state government while pledging decisive and robust measures to bolster security in the general area, warned sternly against spreading unverified rumours or information that could heighten fear, create tension, or undermine ongoing efforts.”

The Plateau State Government reassured the people of Kanam and the entire state that it remains fully committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the protection of lives, the safety of communities, and the preservation of peace across Plateau State.

Our correspondent reports that the attack, which occurred around 4 p.m. on Friday during a routine patrol by a joint team of military personnel and vigilantes, has heightened calls for stronger federal and state intervention .
