Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the construction of the Akko North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Secretariat project in Amada town.
Yahaya said the establishment of the LCDA was part of his administration’s plan to bring governance closer to the people and ensure inclusive development.
He disclosed that the proposal to create the LCDA has passed three readings in the Gombe State House of Assembly and expressed confidence that the process would be completed in line with constitutional provisions.
The governor said the new administrative structure would focus on key areas, including security, basic education, primary healthcare, and agriculture, to improve people’s welfare.
He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects in the state, including road networks and water supply schemes, and assured residents that the government would continue to address their needs.
Governor Yahaya called for continued support and cooperation from the people, stressing that development efforts require collective responsibility.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Akko Local Government, Mohammed Danladi Adamu, described the project as a historic milestone that would bring government closer to the people and enhance administrative efficiency.
He commended the governor for implementing impactful projects in the area, including road construction, improved healthcare and education infrastructure, and agricultural interventions, noting that these initiatives have significantly improved living conditions and economic activity.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the state Joint Project Office, Builder Mahmud Yusuf, said the secretariat project is the 11th out of 13 projects approved for execution. He explained that the facility is designed as a standard administrative complex with offices for key officials, council chambers, and other essential units.
Yusuf emphasised that the project reflects the governor’s directive for quality, noting that high-grade materials, including steel trusses for roofing, are being used to ensure durability. He assured that the project would be completed before the June local government elections in the state.
In his remarks, the Emir of Gona, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abubakar, commended the state government for various developmental projects in the emirate, including the construction of administrative buildings, schools, and healthcare facilities.
However, the traditional ruler appealed for urgent government intervention to provide potable water in the Akko and Lawanti communities, citing confirmed cases of water contamination that have led to typhoid outbreaks and loss of lives.
He also requested the construction of roads in areas such as Dolli, Zango Mari, and the Kalcingi axis to improve accessibility and complement existing development efforts.
The emir further acknowledged the contributions of Usman Bello Kumo, the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and the lawmaker representing Akko federal constituency, for supporting infrastructure development and youth empowerment in the area.
