Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has expressed optimism that the lingering Kano Emirate tussle would soon be resolved peacefully, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to achieve an amicable settlement acceptable to all parties.
The governor gave the assurance during the second special prayer session and Qur’anic recitation held at the Government House, Kano, where no fewer than 4,444 Qur’anic reciters recently gathered to pray for unity, peace and prosperity in the state.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Yusuf said the growing devotion among residents and political stakeholders in seeking divine intervention for peace was already yielding positive outcomes.
He noted that the presence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, at state programmes was a clear indication of increasing harmony and unity among political leaders in Kano.
Governor Yusuf said he was confident that the fervent prayers offered by the reciters would help bring a lasting end to the Emirate crisis, stressing that the matter would be resolved in a way that would satisfy all parties.
The governor also pledged to intensify efforts to unite politicians in the state, urging them to shun do-or-die politics and embrace mutual respect and understanding for the overall progress of Kano.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating thuggery, lamenting that many youths involved in such activities are sons of Kano who should instead contribute meaningfully to development.
Yusuf further assured residents that his government would continue to execute projects with direct impact on the welfare and wellbeing of the people.
Speaking at the event, Senator Barau Jibrin commended the governor for initiating the unity prayer programme, describing it as a strategic move towards sustaining peace in the state.
He urged other states to emulate Kano’s example by organizing similar prayer sessions for national cohesion.
Earlier, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, called on residents to remain steadfast in prayers for the progress of Kano State and Nigeria.
