Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has emerged as the sole governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections in the state.
The affirmation took place on Thursday during a congress held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, which attracted a large crowd of party supporters, political office holders and stakeholders from across the state.
The motion for Yusuf’s adoption as the APC consensus governorship candidate was moved by the Deputy President of the Senate and Senator representing Kano North, Barau Jibrin.
Barau said the congress had resolved to nominate and affirm the governor as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The motion was seconded by Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South, and described Yusuf as the consensus choice of the party ahead of the next general election.
Speaking at the event, the APC national representative for the primary election, Buhari Shagari, said the consensus arrangement reflected unity within the party, stressing that progress could only be achieved in an atmosphere of cohesion and cooperation.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Yusuf pledged to intensify delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Kano State and assured party members of his commitment to advancing development across the state.
The governor also declared support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
He expressed appreciation to the APC national leadership, security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their roles in ensuring a smooth process.
Yusuf further commended party members who supported the consensus arrangement, urging continued unity, peace and discipline as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also called on residents to pray for peaceful, free and credible elections, while assuring other aspirants of his commitment to inclusiveness within the party.
Earlier, the Kano State APC chairman, Umar Doguwa, in his welcome remarks, prayed for the success of the party at all levels and called for sustained peace and unity in the state.
