Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of a visually-challenged lawyer, Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa, as a Law Officer in the State’s Ministry of Justice.

The appointment is viewed as a major step toward strengthening inclusion, equal opportunity, and meaningful empowerment for persons with disabilities in the state.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Ochoga, the decision was a reaffirmation that disability does not limit ability, emphasising his administration’s resolve to create opportunities for talented citizens regardless of physical challenges.

Idahosa’s appointment crowns a remarkable journey marked by resilience.

Diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, she dropped out of school in Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 and remained at home for thirteen years before receiving support from the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities, which enabled her to return to formal education.

She later gained admission to study Law at the University of Benin, graduating with Second Class Upper Division in 2023 before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School in 2024, and was called to the Bar in September 2025.

Her employment, the governor said, reflects the administration’s commitment to fairness and practical support for citizens overcoming significant obstacles.
