On May 29, 2026, the administration of Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi marks three years in office, a milestone that offers the people of Jigawa State an opportunity to reflect on a journey of purposeful leadership, strategic planning, and transformative governance.

When Governor Umar Namadi assumed office on May 29, 2023, he inherited not only the responsibility of governing one of Nigeria’s most promising states but also the collective aspirations of millions of citizens yearning for accelerated development and improved living standards. Three years later, there is little doubt that the administration has remained focused on translating those aspirations into tangible realities.

From the outset, Governor Namadi anchored his administration on the ambitious but achievable 12-Point Greater Jigawa Agenda, a comprehensive development blueprint designed to unlock the state’s vast potential through strategic investments in agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, industrialization, manpower development, technology, social protection, security, and economic diversification.

Three years into the journey, the results are becoming increasingly visible across the state. One of the defining features of the Namadi administration has been its unwavering commitment to inclusive governance. Through the introduction of the citizen engagement programme, “Gwamnati da Jama’a,” the government has taken governance closer to the people. The initiative has strengthened transparency, accountability, and direct interaction between elected officials and citizens, creating a platform where government policies, projects, and programmes are openly discussed while citizens freely express their concerns and expectations.

This approach has significantly enhanced public trust and reinforced the administration’s belief that development can only be meaningful when citizens are active participants in the governance process.

In the area of economic development, Governor Namadi has demonstrated remarkable foresight. Recognizing that sustainable growth requires a strong productive base, his administration has prioritized agriculture and industrialization as twin engines of economic transformation.

Agriculture, the mainstay of Jigawa’s economy, continues to receive unprecedented support through the provision of subsidized inputs, mechanization initiatives, irrigation development, and strategic partnerships aimed at boosting food production and creating wealth for farmers. The state’s growing prominence in national agricultural initiatives is a testament to the administration’s commitment to making Jigawa a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.

Beyond agriculture, Governor Namadi has aggressively pursued industrial development by attracting private investments capable of creating jobs, stimulating local production, and expanding the state’s revenue base. This deliberate effort to reduce dependence on federal allocations reflects a leadership that understands the demands of modern economic management.

Infrastructure development has equally remained a major priority. Across the state, roads, housing projects, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions are being developed, upgraded, or rehabilitated to improve the quality of life of citizens and support economic activities. The ongoing housing projects across various local government areas stand as practical evidence of the administration’s determination to address the accommodation needs of the people while simultaneously creating employment opportunities.

The healthcare sector has witnessed significant improvements under Governor Namadi’s leadership. Investments in health facilities, medical equipment, and personnel development have strengthened service delivery, particularly at the primary healthcare level. Regular monitoring and evaluation mechanisms introduced by the administration have further enhanced efficiency and accountability within the sector.

Education, which remains the cornerstone of sustainable development, has also received considerable attention. The administration continues to invest in school infrastructure, teacher development, digital learning initiatives, and scholarship programmes designed to prepare Jigawa’s young population for the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century.

Perhaps one of the most admirable qualities of Governor Umar Namadi’s leadership is his emphasis on continuity and institutional development. Rather than abandoning ongoing projects and programmes, he has embraced a governance philosophy that prioritizes completion, consolidation, and expansion. This has not only prevented waste but has also ensured that public resources are utilized efficiently for maximum impact.

Equally important is the administration’s commitment to security. Through collaboration with conventional security agencies and community-based security initiatives, Jigawa has continued to maintain its reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country. The government’s investment in logistics, intelligence gathering, and community policing has strengthened efforts to safeguard lives and property.

As the administration enters its fourth year, what becomes increasingly evident is that Governor Umar Namadi is not merely implementing projects; he is laying the foundation for a more prosperous, competitive, and self-reliant Jigawa State. His governance style combines prudence, accessibility, vision, and determination—qualities that have earned him the confidence of many citizens across political, social, and economic divides.

The story of the last three years is therefore not simply about roads constructed, hospitals renovated, schools upgraded, or investments attracted. It is fundamentally a story of leadership driven by vision, guided by purpose, and committed to building a future where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

As Jigawa State looks ahead, there is growing optimism that the Greater Jigawa Agenda will continue to deliver transformative outcomes. The journey is far from over, but the direction is clear, the foundation is solid, and the prospects are bright.

Three years on, Governor Umar Namadi’s administration stands as a compelling example of how foresight, planning, and people-centred governance can drive meaningful development and position a state for long-term prosperity.
