Governors Who Didn’t Support Tinubu

Vice President Kashim Shettima has set everyone on a guessing game on which state governors from the northern half of the country supported the election of President Bola Tinubu and which didn’t back him in 2022.

In 2022, APC governed 14 of the 19 northern states, and Shettima named only Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara and former governor of Niger, Abubakar Bello, among the six he said supported Tinubu.

But it would be safe to say that former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Borno governor Babagana Zulum were among the six.

It’s also not implausible to suggest that Nasir el-Rufai wasn’t in support. As governor of Kaduna, he was initially inclined towards supporting Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, but the cabal wouldn’t budge.

So too was the then-governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, who vigorously campaigned for the APC ticket, not among the six.

Many of the governors who spearheaded the removal of Adams Oshiomhole as APC chairman can also be ruled out. Between Atiku Bagudu, Aminu Masari, Abubakar Badaru, Bello Matawalle, and Simon Lalong, who are the remaining two?
