Founder of the Green Schools International Foundation and national project coordinator of the Green Schools Project in Nigeria, Unyime Robinson, has praised commitments by ministers from member countries of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) to advance efforts on greening education.
The pledges were made during the recently concluded COP29 summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the event, Robinson, who is also a member of the Greening Education Partnership, called for a stronger drive to translate the commitments into actionable outcomes.
“This requires accelerating political and financial support for greening education, alongside increased overall financing for the education sector.
Particular focus should be placed on targeted investments in green transitions, research, and innovation,” Robinson stated.
The Greening Education Partnership is a global coalition dedicated to promoting the role of education in combating climate change.
It is led by a diverse group that includes national governments, intergovernmental organisations, youth, civil society, and the private sector.
The initiative is coordinated by a secretariat based at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, with Nigeria as one of its signatories.
