Executive director of Centre for Gender Economics in Africa (CGE), Uchenna Idoko, made the call yesterday in Calabar during a courtesy visit to the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Edema Irom.

The group, which is dedicated to advancing gender equality and combating gender-based violence, states that with the tracking committee, a lot can be achieved.

The commissioner stated that the tracking committee, when established, would facilitate timely tracking, reporting, and advocacy for the GBV budget and ensure that resources are properly allocated to those who need them most.

“ A collaborative, multi-faceted approach is essential to create a state free from GBV.

“This effort requires partnerships between government, international organisations, civil society, and local communities. Idoko maintained.

The executive director averred that the fight against GBV demands unwavering commitment, a collective effort, and harnessing the power of data alongside other critical strategies.

“We can pave the way forward to a future where every woman and girl in Cross River State lives free from violence and discrimination, where GBV actors receive necessary resources from the government to prevent and respond to this scourge effectively,” she said.

In her remarks, the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Edema Irom, assured the organisation of the ministry’s willingness to partner with the non for -profit organization.

She enumerated 12 persons to be included in the tracking committee team, including the media, traditional institutions, faith-based organisations, and human rights activists.
