A youth group in Plateau State has condemned the recent killing of 28 residents of Angwan Rukuba, Jos North local government area (LGA).
The group said Governor Mutfwang had been recognised for his efforts to foster unity, inclusivity and interfaith harmony among Christian and Muslim communities since assuming office in May 2023.
The group, Plateau Youth Progressive Minds for Positive Development, applauded Mutfwang for his timely response to the situation by imposing a 48-hour curfew on Jos North and ensuring that security is beefed up to avoid escalation.
The group leaders spoke during a press conference on the recent killings in Jos yesterday at the Bishop Court.
Its coordinator, Morgan Armstrong Pam, however, described as unfortunate that some crisis merchants had taken to the public space with false narratives with regard to the handling of security in the state by Mutfwang, with some accusing him of complicity, targeting and killing Muslims in Jos.
“We consider this allegation as reckless, insensitive and misleading, taking into cognisance the fact that the Palm Sunday Killings occurred in a Christian-dominated area, with all the victims being Christians”.
The group noted that Governor Mutfwang has been recognised for his efforts to foster unity, inclusivity, and interfaith harmony among Christian and Muslim communities since assuming office in May 2023.
He added that the Governor has frequently emphasised that his administration was committed to fair treatment and justice for all citizens, regardless of religious or ethnic background.
According to the group, “It is on record that his administration has pursued a policy of ‘carrying everyone along’ through several initiatives designed to bridge historical divides in the state:
“His administration has rehabilitated roads in areas with a significant Muslim population within the Jos metropolis, such as Masalacin Jumaa Street, Chobe Road, and Zololo junction.
“Governor Mutfwang has approved the renovation of the Jos Central Mosque and sponsored a substantial number of Muslim pilgrims for the annual Hajj.
“He has also appointed Muslims to various positions within his administration and hosted Muslim leaders during Sallah celebrations, promoting dialogue and cooperation.
“In April 2025, he inaugurated a 35-member Inter-Religious Advisory Council, co-chaired by leaders from both the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), to promote peace”.
The group noted that, in light of the above, leaders of the Muslim community have commended these efforts, stating that the tangible developments have helped dispel previous concerns about the administration’s inclusiveness.
According to the group, the motive and intention of the sponsors and perpetrators of these heinous acts is to make the state ungovernable, with the declaration of a state of emergency as the only option.
“Gentlemen of the press, this, to our mind, is unnecessary and dangerous, bearing in mind that the previous emergency rule in the state in 2004 only saw the transformation of a political crisis into deeper governance failures.
“In this regard, we call on President Bola Tinubu to take note of the antics of these anti democrats and enemies of Plateau State”.
The group was, however, content, and hoping that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Jos today to commiserate with victims of the gun attacks would provide him the opportunity of knowing the true position with regard to the security challenge in Plateau State.
The group further contends that Governor Mutfwang’s vision for Plateau is very clear. “His administration is steadily rebuilding trust among communities, reconnecting
