The Renewed Hope Neighbour to Neighbour Initiative has hailed the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for conferring an Honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Degree in Education on First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing the recognition as a fitting tribute to her contributions to education, humanitarian service and national development.
The honorary degree was conferred during the university’s convocation ceremony on Saturday.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Belusochukwu Enwere, the group said the honour reflected Senator Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to advancing education, empowering women and promoting inclusive national development.
According to the statement, the First Lady’s leadership through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has driven impactful programmes in education, healthcare, agriculture, economic empowerment and social investment across the country.
The group noted that the initiative has supported thousands of women through business grants, vocational training, digital skills acquisition and agricultural interventions, while also expanding access to scholarships, maternal and child healthcare services, and relief assistance for vulnerable communities.
It added that the South-East has benefited significantly from the initiative’s women and youth empowerment programmes, educational support, healthcare campaigns, food distribution and skills acquisition projects.
Describing the honorary doctorate as well deserved, the group commended the First Lady’s sustained advocacy for girls’ education, youth development and women’s economic inclusion, saying the interventions have strengthened efforts to promote sustainable national development.
It expressed confidence that the recognition would further inspire Senator Tinubu to deepen programmes aimed at improving the welfare of women, children and other vulnerable groups across the country.
