Executive director Hacey Health Initiative, Rhoda Robinson, has called for increased investment in empowerment and social protection for the girl child.
Robinson who said this at the international Day of the Girl Child Conference with the theme, ‘Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders’, organised by the initiative in partnership with Access Bank affirmed the need to harp on the sustainable development goals (SDG) to ensure that no one is left behind.
She listed health care, education, and political participation as key areas in need of improvement in relation to the girl child.
Robinson noted that in the 2022 Global Gender Index, Nigeria recorded progress, being among the first 50 countries with economic opportunities available for women.
She explained that the major challenge girl child is facing is gender inequality, which cuts across a girl’s right to access basic support such as protection from violence and harm and the right to live free from fear.
