A group, women-led Civil Society Organizations Network Yobe State chapter, has condemned the killing of a female staff member of the Yobe State University, Ammi Adamu Mammam in Damaturu, the state capital.
The group called on the authorities to ensure justice for the deceased.

In a statement issued by chairperson of the organisation, Barrister Altine Ibrahim, yesterday, the group noted that killing had become an absurd routine in the country, adding that we were deeply troubled by the details surrounding the death of Ammi Adamu, who is a volunteer to one of our member organizations.

The statement partly read,” In what has become an absurd routine, the nation, yet again, witnessed the gruesome killing in cold blood, of Ammi Mammam, a 42-year-old allegedly by suspected, Abubakar Musa has already been apprehended, the distressing and traumatic information indicates that Ammi was sleeping beside her husband when she was violently attacked and stabbed on the neck with a sharp object, resulting to her death.

The group supported the current investigation launched by the security agencies in the state on the recent alleged murder of Ammi.

It urged the authorities to leave no stone unturned to ensure the perpetrator of this act faces the full wrath of the law, and women groups in the state remain committed and vigilant.
Altine added that ” It is indeed a cause for grave concern if a woman is not safe even while asleep on her own bed and with her husband, who in our society is seen as a roof and major source of protection for the family is the alleged perpetrator.

“All civil society organisations, alongside professional bodies within the state and across the federation to amplify their voices on this matter and to ensure it receives the widespread publicity as it duly deserves.”
She said it is crucial that such atrocities are brought to the forefront to prevent further occurrences and to protect the rights and well-being of women in our society.
