Nigeria at a Crossroads: Youth Coalitions Urge President Tinubu to Recall Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.) for Strategic National Security Role in the country.
Abuja, a broad coalition of youth leaders and regional stakeholder groups cutting across the North, Middle Belt, Niger Delta and Southern Nigeria has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently re-engage the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), in a critical national security role.
In a Communiqué issued by Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, President, MOSIEND and
Comrade Isaac Oweicho for National Coalition of Youth and Regional Stakeholder Organisations after a high-level meeting which involved major youth platforms, including the Niger Delta Youth Coalition for Peace and Progress, Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), Northern Youth Alliance for Sustainable Security and Development, Middle Belt Youths for Poverty Eradication, Northern Youth Peace Movement and others, the group expressed deep concern over Gen. Musa’s unexpected retirement in October.
According to the groups, his exit created widespread unease among young people, especially those familiar with his exceptional discipline, operational brilliance and firm leadership style, which had contributed to stabilizing several volatile regions in recent years.
“Nigeria is in dire need of decisive, intelligent, and uncompromising security leadership. General Musa remains one of the finest assets this country has produced in modern military history,” the communiqué stated.
They also noted that with rising insecurity occasioned by banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, rural attacks, oil-corridor sabotage and organised criminal networks, the country cannot afford to sideline a man with such unmatched strategic capacity.
They appealed to President Tinubu to deploy Gen. Musa in a special security appointment that would coordinate the nation’s security architecture and drive a unified strategy to restore order and strengthen inter-agency cooperation.
“Mr President is known for identifying exceptional talent and placing them where the nation needs them most. Gen. Musa is one such rare talent. Recalling him now will significantly boost national security outcomes,” the statement added.
“We urge Mr President to act swiftly. The security of our people cannot wait. Nigeria needs Gen. Musa’s expertise back in the system—and now is the time.”
The coalition warned that Nigeria stands at a delicate moment and urgently requires experienced patriots like Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa to restore confidence and drive decisive gains against insecurity.
