About 30, 000 students of Ogun State origin in tertiary schools across the country and those in public primary and secondary schools have benefitted from the Educash transfer initiated by the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration to cushion the effects of the current economic crisis.
While 20,000 students in tertiary institutions got a total sum of N50,000 each, the indigent ones totalling 10,000 in primary and secondary schools received N10,000 each.
The state commissioner for education, science and technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed this yesterday at a media interaction after monitoring the cash transfer programme in public primary and secondary schools in Ogun West Senatorial District.
He said the government would not entertain cash payment to any student during the ongoing exercise, Arigbabu assured that all students captured would be fully paid at both the tertiary and secondary/primary levels.
“I want to assure those who have not received theirs, for instance, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), a list of over 12,000 was sent to us. As we speak now, we have paid less than 6,000. The same thing at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), where we have below 8,000. We have tried to make sure we are targeting between the range of 45 percent to 50 percent in all the schools”.
He said the government would still avail any parent without a bank account an opportunity to do so as long as they have already been captured for the Educash payment.
