Hardship: Lions Club Moves To Tackle Hunger, Malnutrition In Lagos

As part of measures to ameliorate the biting effects of current hardship in the country, the Lions Clubs International District 404B2 Nigeria, has disclosed plans to raise N250 million, to establish a world-class food bank in Lagos, which it hopes will serve at least 100,000 people annually.

Lions governor, District 404B2 Nigeria, Lion Tolulope Ayodeji Senbanjo, who disclosed this at the 2024-2025 Lions Service Year press briefing in Lagos, affirmed that the initiative will help reduce hunger and malnutrition in the state.

Senbanjo said Lions Clubs are a community of dedicated individuals committed to positively impacting society, adding that members of the club come from diverse backgrounds but share a common goal: to serve others with passion, compassion, and humility.

“With clubs located throughout Nigeria, we strive to address the unique needs of our local communities and collaborate with fellow Lions Clubs globally. This global network allows us to create sustainable change, providing access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, combating climate change, and promoting peace and international understanding. We are part of a worldwide movement dedicated to serving those most in need,” he added.

Speaking on projects carried out by the Club, Senbanjo said notable projects carried out by District 404B2 in Nigeria, include building a -Modern Dialysis and Kidney Treatment Centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH Idi-Araba Lagos state, a Diabetes screening and treatment Centre at the Alimosho General Hospital Igando Lagos State, the biggest Motherless babies home in Nigeria at Lekki Lagos, Cancer screening and treatment Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja Lagos State, the establishment of the diabetes center at the Lautech Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho, the eye screening and surgery center at Kwara state, among others.
