Hollywood icon Harrison Ford has broken his silence on a deeply personal struggle, revealing that he has battled clinical depression for most of his adult life.
Speaking on the Hollywood Reporter’s Award Chatter Podcast, the 83-year-old Indiana Jones star admitted that, behind the “tough guy” exterior and global fame, he has often struggled with a profound sense of isolation and mental fatigue. Ford disclosed that he chose to keep his condition private for decades to avoid being seen as “broken” in an industry that prizes invulnerability.
“I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling like I was in a room by myself, even when the world was watching,” Ford shared. He noted that the decision to speak out now was motivated by a desire to encourage other men, particularly of his generation, to seek help without shame.
The veteran actor credited professional therapy and a late-career focus on aviation and environmental activism as key factors in managing his mental health. While he acknowledged that there is no “magic cure,” he emphasised that opening up has been the most liberating role of his career.
