I Begged God To Take My Life At 20 — Adekunle Gold

Nigerian Afrobeats star, Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, has shared an emotional account of his lifelong battle with sickle cell disease, revealing a time when the physical pain drove him to despair.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Angela Yee, the singer recounted a severe health crisis he suffered at the age of 20, describing it as the most painful experience of his life.

According to the artiste, the physical torment became so unbearable that he begged God to end his existence.

“At 20, I had the craziest crisis of my life. I told God to take my life,” the singer revealed.

He added that the severity of the pain silenced his mother, who would normally caution him against making negative confessions. “My mom couldn’t even rebuke me. It got to a point where it felt like the only thing that made sense should just happen,” he recalled.

He also expressed frustration over the public stigma associated with the genetic disorder. He noted that people often treat him with pity or preemptive grief once they learn about his health status.

“They look at me like I’m going to die soon,” the singer explained, urging the public to change their perception of sickle cell warriors.
