Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, has sparked mixed reactions online after revealing that she introduced her daughter, Simisola, to alcohol and clubbing at the age of 17.
Speaking in an interview with content creator Mr Lilgaga, Bakare explained that her decision was intentional, noting that she wanted her daughter to always remember her as the one who guided her first experience with nightlife.
“I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17. And I like the fact that in her memoir, she would reference me as the person who introduced her to alcohol and clubbing,” Bakare said.
The actress added that she preferred to expose her daughter to such experiences herself rather than leave her to figure it out through peers.
“At least, she would say, ‘it was my mother who showed me these things first,’” she added.
Simisola, who recently marked her 17th birthday with a lavish celebration attended by friends, family, and Bakare’s colleagues, was seen in a viral video dancing joyfully in a gown while being cheered on by her peers.
Bakare’s comments have since ignited heated debates across social media. While some praised her for taking a bold and open approach to parenting, others strongly criticised the decision, arguing that introducing a teenager to alcohol and nightlife could encourage unhealthy habits.
