Ibadan Explosion: Makinde Didn’t Tell Nigerians About Tinubu’s N50bn Support — Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde of omitting details of the N50 billion reportedly given by President Bola Tinubu as intervention and financial support to Oyo State for the January 2024 explosion that rocked part of Bodija, Ibadan, during his recent media chat.

Fayose made the allegation during an interview on TVC News while reacting to comments made by Makinde where the Oyo State Governor expressed dissatisfaction with Tinubu over the rejection of his ministerial nominee.

Makinde had said the President told him that an indigene of Oyo State was needed for a ministerial appointment, but despite submitting a qualified candidate, the slot was eventually given to someone else.

Responding, Fayose described Governor Makinde’s account as incomplete, insisting that the governor omitted key details of the president’s intervention in the state.

“He wanted the minister to be appointed. Circumstances did not allow you to get that slot,” Fayose said.

“But you did not tell Nigerians you got the prerogative, at the mercy of Mr President, you got a N50 billion in support of the explosion in Ibadan. He never said that to Nigeria,” Fayose stated.

According to Fayose, the president could have limited the support to a lesser amount but chose otherwise.

“So, the president can say the explosion is not worth more than N10 billion. The president went ahead and gave you the window to be able to contain those challenges and give you N50 billion,” he said.

“That N50 billion did not come into your covers of Oyo State. It came with you coming to interface with the president because you came and said you met with the president,” he added.

Fayose also criticised Makinde for selectively recounting details of his meeting with President Tinubu.

“You only said a part where you said the president told you that go and organise APC for me, and ‘I said I cannot organise’. But you did not tell Nigerians what the president did for you and did for the good people of your state,” Fayose added.
